The 1962 Jaguar XK-E FHC (Fixed Head Coupe) is one of the early examples of the iconic E-Type Jaguar, which was initially introduced in 1961. For the US market, the E-Type took its model name from the DOHC 3.8-litre XK engine that powered it, becoming the XK-E. The early versions of the E-Type were relatively basic compared to later models, featuring partial synchromesh transmissions and fixed, non-reclining seats. Despite these limitations, the car’s performance and stylish design made it a standout in the automotive world.
In 1965, significant improvements were made to the E-Type, with the XK engine growing to 4.2 litres, which provided more power and a smoother driving experience. This upgrade, along with other refinements, helped to further cement the E-Type’s reputation as one of the most desirable sports cars of its time.
Interestingly, over half of all E-Type production was exported to the United States, where it was highly popular, thanks to its stunning looks and impressive performance at a relatively affordable price compared to its competitors. The 1962 Jaguar XK-E remains a beloved classic today, admired for its design, engineering, and the beginning of what would become one of Jaguar’s most iconic models.
