1969 Marbon Formacar

The 1969 Marbon Formacar by Borg-Warner's Marbon Chemical division was developed primarily as a showcase for Cycolac ABS plastic, intended to demonstrate the material's versatility and strength in automotive applications.

This prototype vehicle was fitted with an AMC V8 engine, but despite its advanced materials, it failed to secure interest from the U.S. automotive sector for mainstream car production. Cycolac ABS, however, found success in other industries, becoming widely used in products like lawn furniture, sporting goods, and outdoor equipment due to its durability and weather resistance.

The Formacar’s role as a promotional tool highlights the innovative, if niche, applications that were considered for plastics in automotive design during that era, aligning with the period's experimentation with lighter and more durable materials. The Marbon CRV is another related project by Borg-Warner, similarly intended to display the capabilities of Cycolac ABS.
