The 1995 Mercedes-Benz Vision 2005 Truck, Luigi Colani's third concept truck, was developed after his return to Europe in the late 1980s. Built with support from Daimler-Benz and a team of designers, the Vision 2005 featured significant advancements in both design and functionality. It was presented at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Key innovations included side doors for easier cabin entry, aerodynamic pylons that guided airflow while supporting the massive glass dome cabin, and a reduced drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.32. The truck was built on a Mercedes-Benz 1844LS chassis with a 435-horsepower turbodiesel engine. It also featured a cabin suspension system for a smoother ride and advanced safety systems like ABS, TSC, and ESP.
This truck marked a shift toward a more refined and functional design compared to Colani’s earlier "homemade" models. Two years later, a more aggressive version was created for TV manufacturer TechniSat.
