The 1997 Alfa Romeo Scighera GT, unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show alongside the road-going version, was a track-focused evolution of the original concept. While maintaining the same striking design, the GT version incorporated significant performance and structural modifications to enhance its racing capabilities.
The most notable difference was the front end, now a single carbon fiber piece integrating the grille, wings, and bonnet. Unlike the aluminum construction of the road model, this lightweight component was fully removable and hinged at the sides for easy access. The conventional doors remained, but the windows were fixed for increased rigidity. Large side air intakes fed the mid-mounted 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, delivering 400 hp and optimized for high-performance driving.
At the rear, the carbon fiber construction continued, highlighted by a centrally mounted monoplane spoiler designed for improved aerodynamics and stability at high speeds. With its aggressive enhancements and lightweight materials, the Scighera GT represented ItalDesign’s vision of a race-ready Alfa Romeo, blending futuristic aesthetics with motorsport engineering.
