In 1998, the Alfa Romeo Monoposto Spider, a unique concept car born out of a collaboration between Centro Stile and Zagato, hit the scene. Sporting a striking resemblance to the contemporary GTV and Spider series, this distinctive one-seater concept turned heads with its unconventional design. The Monoposto Spider featured a second seat discreetly covered by an aerodynamic fairing, complemented by a roll bar, and notably, lacked a windshield, adding an extra dash of boldness to its appearance.
While the Monoposto Spider was a concept, its design innovations found a second life in practical applications. Many of its distinctive design elements were incorporated into the GTVs utilized in the GTV Cup mono-make race. Additionally, echoes of the Monoposto Spider's design solutions reverberated in the Cup versions of the coupé, showcasing the lasting impact and influence of this avant-garde concept on Alfa Romeo's subsequent production models.
