The 2000 Matra M72 Concept represents a unique blend of a motorcycle and a car, offering an innovative approach to fun and mobility. Open to anyone over 16, the quadricycle version of the M72 is limited to 20 horsepower, presenting a roofless two-seater design that provides panoramic driving pleasure. Positioned between a car and a motorbike, the M72 emphasizes simplicity and the direct joy of experiencing nature.
Constructed with a space frame made of steel and aluminum profiles and featuring plastic body panels, the M72 is equipped with swivel yokes instead of doors and rides on automobile 15-inch wheels with "motorcycle" fenders. The open two-seater is designed for active recreation and is powered by a two-cylinder two-stroke 750 cc engine with a CVT located behind the seats.
The maximum power options include 20 hp (for drivers aged 16 and above) or 50 hp, enabling maximum speeds of 100 or 130 km/h. The independent suspension on all wheels, with a torsion bar front and McPherson struts rear, ensures responsive handling. Disc brakes on all wheels contribute to safety.
The Matra M72 concept reflects a commitment to environmental awareness, driving sensations, safety, and ecological considerations. It positions itself as an alternative for a new market of customers seeking a different kind of outing. The unique design captures the essence of actively entertaining style, providing great driving sensations while being mindful of safety and ecology.
As of 2002, the serial production of Matra M72 was expected to commence in the second half of 2003, with plans for a new plant and a network of 120 dealers, including those selling Renault cars. The pricing strategy in France aimed to offer the 20-horsepower modification for 7,500 euros and the 50-horsepower version for 8,000 euros.
