2003 Mitsubishi CZ2 Cabrio Concept

The 2003 Mitsubishi CZ2 Cabrio Concept, introduced at the Geneva Auto Show, demonstrates Mitsubishi Motors' aim to combine elegance with practicality in a contemporary open-top design. Inspired by the company’s first show car, the 1962 Colt 600 Convertible, this concept delivers a casual and chic look for modern cabriolets. With a minimalist “One-Motion-Shape” profile, the CZ2 Cabrio uses a flush-fitting canvas top instead of a retractable steel roof, emphasizing the classic cabriolet spirit. Its generous 2,500 mm wheelbase accommodates a spacious four-passenger cabin and ample trunk space, while twin grilles framing the Mitsubishi emblem flow dynamically onto the hood. LED headlights and rear lights enhance the car's modern look.

Accessibility and ease of use are integral to the CZ2 Cabrio’s design. The car features long doors with special hinges that allow for wide openings, ensuring comfortable entry and exit, even to the rear seats. A double-hinged rear hatch efficiently integrates roof storage with trunk access, blending functionality with style. The body’s green-tinted silver paint is enriched by shimmering orange pigments, pairing well with the terra cotta cloth soft top for a sophisticated exterior aesthetic.

Inside, the CZ2 Cabrio provides a warm, inviting environment with a pastel light green color palette and natural materials that promote a sense of tranquility. The design includes clever storage solutions in collaboration with Mandarina Duck, with each door featuring two detachable bags for flexible use, from in-car storage to portable shoulder bags or backpacks. The dashboard and controls are sleek and simplified for ease of use, while indirect lighting on door handles adds a comfortable touch in low-light conditions.

Performance-wise, the CZ2 Cabrio houses a 1.5-liter MIVEC inline-four engine, blending high power output with low fuel consumption. The INVECS-III Sport Mode CVT transmission, with its adaptive shift control, ensures smooth and responsive gear transitions, enhancing both acceleration and engine braking for a dynamic driving experience. Built with a focus on stability and handling, the car’s low center of gravity, wide tracks, and short overhangs give it a poised, sporty feel on the road.

With its stylish yet functional design, the 2003 Mitsubishi CZ2 Cabrio Concept epitomizes Mitsubishi’s vision for a modern, driver-focused cabriolet. Balancing performance, comfort, and chic aesthetics, the CZ2 is a showcase of the brand’s dedication to sophisticated and practical automotive innovation.
