The 2003 Subaru B9 Scrambler Concept, also known as the Subaru B9SC, is an open two-seat sports car that captures the essence of classic automotive styling while incorporating modern hybrid technology. Designed under the guidance of Andreas Zapatinas, the B9 Scrambler draws inspiration from Subaru's aviation heritage. The front end resembles the cross-section of an airliner, featuring a central jet intake and wing-like elements. This design philosophy builds on themes previously explored in the B11S concept. The B9 Scrambler measures 4.2 meters (165.4 inches) in length and includes dent-resistant lower panels, which enhance its sporty character while ensuring durability.
At the heart of the B9 Scrambler is a 2.0-liter flat-4 cylinder hybrid powertrain, branded by Subaru as the Sequential Series Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SSHEV). This system allows the vehicle to operate solely on the electric motor at speeds of up to 80 km/h (50 mph), with the gasoline engine engaging when higher speeds are necessary or to recharge the battery. The electric motor produces 134 hp (100 kW), while the gasoline engine contributes an additional 138 hp (103 kW).
