The 2004 Fioravanti Kite Concept captures the spirit of freedom and wide-open spaces, akin to the kite on a surfboard. This coupe, showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, emphasizes both sportiness and spaciousness, aiming to provide not just comfort for its passengers but also room for bulky sports equipment often required for outdoor activities.
One unique feature of the Kite is its innovative roof design, which addresses the common issue of limited headroom in coupes. The Kite’s roof structure is both lightweight and transparent, made from a high-strength, perforated steel plate. This design not only improves the interior’s vertical space but also enhances visibility for rear-seat passengers, creating an airy, spacious environment.
The structural element of the roof, which resembles a “sail,” is more than just aesthetic. It starts at the vehicle’s interior front to support the rear-view mirror, then flows toward the back, integrating seamlessly into the rear supports. This intricate design forms a striking visual element, crossing multiple levels within the car’s interior.
The front of the Kite showcases Fioravanti’s signature understated but purposeful air inlets, optimized for aerodynamic efficiency. Another advanced feature of the Kite is its fourth-generation LED headlamp system, continuing Fioravanti’s work with LED technology first seen in the 2001 Vola prototype. Here, the design reduces components to keep the framework light, and the headlamp casings double as containers for the lighting elements, enhancing the car’s dynamic look. The headlamps also include curving beams, which are particularly effective for illuminating side areas.
The side profile features a unique three-dimensional motif, adding depth and character, while the rear of the Kite includes a wide hatch for convenient access to storage. The taillights, made from dot-like LEDs, echo the perforated roof structure, creating a unified design language.
Collaborating on this concept were CECOMP, who constructed the prototype, Lumileds Fraen, and Pirelli, who contributed components. In addition to its distinctive look, the Kite concept also boasts transformation capabilities, spacious access, and updated LED technology. Its blend of innovative design and practical elements reflects Fioravanti’s commitment to creating concepts that balance aesthetics with functionality.
