The 2005 Daihatsu HVS Concept is a hybrid open sports car that blends impressive driving performance with environmentally friendly capabilities. Designed as a roadster, it aims to deliver a driving experience comparable to 2-liter engine vehicles while achieving outstanding fuel economy of 35 km/l, exceeding expectations for 1-liter engine vehicles. The compact, 3,715 mm long body features a low center of gravity and sleek, flowing lines that emphasize its sporty, futuristic look.
The HVS is equipped with a front-mounted hybrid system that combines a 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors. The system produces a maximum output of 109 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, offering smooth acceleration and power that rivals larger engines. The rear electric motor, featuring left-right drive power control, further enhances acceleration and stability.
Inside, the cockpit features a wrap-around dashboard and form-fitting seats, providing a blend of openness and security typical of a roadster. The quality of materials and design touches, like metal accents on the meter cluster and center console, add a modern and sporty appeal. Additionally, the HVS boasts exceptional environmental performance, with emissions reduced by 75% compared to Japan’s 2005 regulations, making it a forward-thinking vehicle that merges performance with eco-friendliness.
