Toyota introduces the 2023 Kayoibako, an innovative electric concept vehicle designed to adapt to diverse lifestyles and purposes. Unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, this "ultra-expandable" model envisions a future where individuals can customize their vehicles for personal and business use.
Versatile Design and Customization:
The Kayoibako's design draws inspiration from shipping containers known as "kayoibako," emphasizing configurability and adaptability. The concept revolves around creating a quality base unit of mobility, focusing on both interior and exterior packaging while maintaining affordability.
The compact electric minivan is tailored for versatility, catering to various needs. With a length not exceeding 3.4 meters and a width of 1.48 meters, it fits the kei car format popular in Japan. The transparent panel between the headlights enhances visibility, and the absence of a B-pillar allows easy accessibility, including for wheelchair users.
Functional Transformation:
The Kayoibako's main feature is its adaptability. It can be configured as a small bus with passenger seats, transformed into a truck by removing all seats, or utilized as a mobile food truck or camper. The flat floor inside facilitates easy entry into the driver's seat, accommodating wheelchair access.
Mobility for All:
Toyota emphasizes the concept's role in contributing to its "mobility for all" commitment. The design considers easier access for wheelchair users, aligning with Toyota's dedication to providing inclusive mobility solutions.
Smart and Sustainable Mobility:
The Kayoibako is envisioned as a model that fits into smart grids and intelligent social systems. Its hardware and software can be customized for various purposes, making it adaptable to support smart distribution systems for last-mile logistics or serve as a mobile shop for local communities.
Personalization and Individual Expression:
Private users can personalize their Kayoibako to express individual tastes and preferences, creating a unique and appealing vehicle. The concept reflects Toyota's vision of a future where people have the freedom to live the life they want, supported by versatile and customizable electric mobility solutions.
