2024 Honda N-Van E

Honda has unveiled the new N-Van E, an electric commercial-use kei van designed for the Japanese market. The N-Van E can accommodate three passengers plus the driver or, alternatively, just the driver with a larger load. One of its standout features is the absence of a B-pillar, which allows for a more spacious and flexible interior configuration. This electric van has a range of 245 kilometers (157 miles) on a single charge, making it practical for various commercial applications.

Sales of the N-Van E in Japan will commence on October 10, 2024. Honda has designed this mini-EV to enhance the capabilities of its gasoline-powered counterpart, the N-Van, which is already known for its versatility in both commercial and recreational contexts. The electric version retains popular features such as a flat, low floor, a high ceiling, and a large opening on the passenger side. These design elements are enhanced with EV-specific benefits, including a quiet cabin and a power output function, making the N-Van E an attractive option for businesses.

The N-Van E is equipped with a large-capacity battery, an optimized eAxle, and a centralized layout of high-voltage components, which together ensure a practical range and ample cargo space. The van's range of 245 kilometers in WLTC mode is sufficient for typical delivery services. Charging is efficient, with normal charging taking approximately 4.5 hours (6.0 kW output) and fast charging taking about 30 minutes (50 kW output) to reach 80% capacity. The battery cooling and heating system helps maintain performance across temperature extremes, ensuring reliability and efficiency throughout the year.

Four types of N-Van E are available to cater to diverse customer needs. The e: L4 is the standard four-seater model, offering a spacious cargo area and modern features like a 7-inch LCD meter and two-tone exterior color options. The e: FUN, based on the e: L4, is designed for leisure activities and features a light, natural beige interior, LED headlights, and standard fast charging capability. The e: G is tailored for commercial use with a single seat and additional cargo space by eliminating the passenger seat. The e: L2, featuring a front/rear tandem seat configuration on the driver side, is designed to make loading and unloading easier with its large, pillar-less opening.

Safety is a priority for the N-Van E, which includes advanced driver-assistive functions as standard across all models. It is the first commercial-use light van in the market to feature side curtain airbags for both the driver and front passenger seats and the first mini-vehicle in Japan to adopt the Post-Collision Braking System, which helps mitigate secondary damage in the event of a collision. Other safety features include Honda SENSING functions like Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

The N-Van E also incorporates Honda CONNECT, which allows users to control various vehicle functions via a smartphone app. Features include setting departure times for optimal cabin temperature and battery conditions, managing charging times to avoid peak electricity rates, and adjusting the maximum charging level to prolong battery life. These smart features contribute to an enhanced user experience, reducing electricity costs and maximizing range.

In summary, the Honda N-Van E represents a significant step forward in electric vehicle design for commercial use in Japan. It combines practicality, advanced features, and a robust safety suite, making it an ideal choice for businesses looking to adopt electric vehicles. The range of models ensures there is a variant suitable for various needs, whether for cargo transport, leisure activities, or specialized commercial applications.
