The NEO Skyline, a creation by fourth-year students in the Auto Maintenance and Customization Department at Nissan Kyoto Automobile Technical College, is a striking reinterpretation of the classic Nissan Skyline. Built over a six-month period, this project takes inspiration from the legendary Kenmary Skyline of the 1970s, while introducing a modern twist that appeals to today’s car enthusiasts. The students sought to evoke the nostalgia of the original Kenmary, blending it with contemporary elements to create a vehicle that resonates with a diverse audience.
Targeting car lovers in their 30s to 50s, the NEO Skyline embodies the spirit of nostalgia, encouragement, and originality. The name “NEO” reflects these themes: nostalgia for those who grew up with the Kenmary Skyline in the 70s, encouragement for those rediscovering their love for driving, and originality for younger enthusiasts seeking something fresh and unique in modern cars. The NEO Skyline’s design avoids directly copying the original Kenmary, instead focusing on capturing its essence while adapting it to today’s aesthetic and engineering standards.
The students used the CV35 Skyline Coupe as the base for this project and applied their vision through a carefully executed redesign. The body color, ‘Tomoaki Blue’, is an original creation that builds upon the bright blue metallic of the Kenmary Skyline, adding a pearl finish to give it a fresh, modern touch. This careful balance between the past and the present makes the NEO Skyline a perfect tribute to the classic while positioning it as a vehicle for the future.
This project is more than just a redesign—it’s a deep connection to Nissan’s legacy, a celebration of automotive history, and a message to a new generation of drivers. The NEO Skyline offers a glimpse of how past inspirations can shape the future, making it a true homage to one of Nissan’s most iconic models.
