Koenig-Specials began with one man’s pursuit of automotive perfection. In the late 1970s, professional racing driver and 1962 German Hillclimbing Champion Willy Koenig found the factory performance of his Ferrari 365 GT4 BB lacking. His modifications, aimed at enhancing both the performance and visual appeal of his car, quickly drew the attention of other Ferrari enthusiasts. This led to the establishment of Koenig-Specials, which expanded its tuning expertise to include a wide range of high-performance vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar, and Lamborghini, as well as Porsche.
In 1987, Koenig-Specials set its sights on transforming the 930 Porsche 911 Turbo, which was known for its challenging handling characteristics. The result was the Koenig-Specials Road Runner, a striking, radically modified 930 with an extensive fiberglass body kit that completely reshaped its silhouette. The distinctive front featured Porsche 928 headlights and custom side mirrors, while the rear incorporated Audi 200 Turbo taillights and a reworked fascia with a prominent wraparound spoiler.

Mechanical enhancements included Bilstein shock absorbers, reinforced anti-roll bars, and a front strut brace for improved rigidity. The 3.3-liter flat-six engine was equipped with twin turbochargers, an upgraded air-to-air intercooler, and a re-mapped ECU, boosting power output to between 480 and 550 PS, far surpassing the standard 930’s 231 PS. The Road Runner also featured a performance exhaust system and an in-cabin boost gauge to allow the driver to control the power delivery.
This particular Road Runner began life as a Guards Red over Champagne leather Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe on 29 October 1985. Factory options included a limited-slip differential, electric passenger-side mirror, sport seats with electric height adjustment, and an electric sunroof. After its transformation, it retained its original color scheme but was enhanced by BBS Koenig BS wheels and dramatic fiberglass aerodynamic elements.
The current owner recently invested over $20,000 in a comprehensive engine-out service, completed in January 2025, which included rebuilt turbochargers, a new lightweight clutch/flywheel assembly, new clutch cable, and the replacement of key engine components such as main seals, aluminum charge pipes, spark plug wires, and more. With just 24,253 kilometers on the odometer at the time of cataloging, this Koenig-Specials Road Runner offers an exceptional opportunity to acquire a fully sorted example of one of the most unique and powerful Porsche 911 Turbo modifications to emerge from the 1980s performance tuning scene.
A rare and exciting opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts of performance cars from the golden era of custom modification.
