The Renault Filante Record 2025 is the latest in a long line of record-breaking Renault vehicles spanning a century. Designed as an experimental electric laboratory on wheels, this radical single-seater EV is engineered to push the boundaries of efficiency. It will make its public debut at the Rétromobile motor show in Paris before attempting to set new records for power consumption and range in the first half of the year.
Inspired by past Renault speed record cars, the Filante Record 2025 incorporates design elements from the brand’s history. Its round headlights pay homage to the 1920s 40 CV des Records, while its wheels, positioned outward from the body, nod to the 1934 Nervasport des Records. Additionally, the aerodynamic arches take cues from the 1956 gas turbine-powered Etoile Filante.
Despite its imposing dimensions—measuring 201.5 inches (5.12 meters) in length—the Filante Record 2025 is remarkably lightweight, tipping the scales at just 2,204 pounds (1,000 kilograms). The 87-kWh battery pack alone accounts for 1,322 pounds (600 kilograms), highlighting the challenge of keeping electric vehicles light. However, Renault has managed to reduce overall weight using a combination of aluminum, carbon, and steel alloys. Engineers also utilized a high-strength aluminum alloy suitable for 3D printing, optimizing material use through AI-powered simulations.
With a width of 67.3 inches (1.71 meters) and a height of just 46.8 inches (1.19 meters), every aspect of the Filante Record 2025 has been sculpted for aerodynamic efficiency. Renault aims to significantly surpass the efficiency of the Scenic E-Tech, which uses the same 87-kWh battery, once testing begins. The Filante Record 2025 is not just a concept but a serious contender in the pursuit of electric vehicle innovation.
