One of Castagna’s great masterpieces was this 1927 Mercedes-Benz Model K Town Car bodied for Millionaire Oklahoma oilman Charles Murray. Murray and his wife Marion Downs paid an astounding $28,000 for the car. While they may have made their fortune pumping oil in Oklahoma and selling land in North Dakota, the couple spent most of their time living in New York City, where they resided in the penthouse of the Waldorf-Astoria until the early 1930s. Their chauffeur-driven Castagna Mercedes was a common sight in NYC.
