2001 DC Design ISA

In 2001, DC Design, an Indian automotive design house, showcased another unique concept car, the ISA. This time, they took the popular Toyota Qualis SUV and transformed it into a sleek and stylish hatchback.

Building on a Popular Platform:

The ISA used the Toyota Qualis, a mid-size SUV known for its spaciousness and comfort, as its foundation. This choice provided a robust platform with good driving dynamics, offering a solid base for the ISA's transformation.

From SUV to Hatchback:

The most striking aspect of the ISA was its complete redesign of the Qualis' rear section. The traditional SUV cargo area was replaced with a sloping roofline and a functional hatchback door, creating a more car-like appearance.

Enhanced Aesthetics:

Beyond the functional change, the ISA received a comprehensive aesthetic makeover:

  • Sleek Design: The sloping roofline and revised rear end created a more aerodynamic and visually appealing silhouette compared to the boxy Qualis.

  • Modified Exterior: The front fascia likely retained some features of the Qualis, but it's possible that DC Design incorporated their own design elements to create a cohesive look.

Limited Information:

Similar to the Devago, details about the ISA's specifications and performance are scarce. It's probable that the engine and drivetrain remained largely unchanged from the Qualis, offering a comfortable and powerful driving experience suitable for various road conditions.

A Glimpse into Design Possibilities:

While the ISA never entered production, it served as a demonstration of DC Design's ability to reimagine existing vehicles into something entirely different. The ISA showcased the potential for hatchbacks based on existing SUV platforms, offering a blend of practicality and style.

Legacy of Innovation:

The ISA, alongside the Devago, highlights DC Design's innovative approach to car design. These concept cars, though not commercially successful, continue to spark curiosity and inspire conversations about the future possibilities of automotive design and customization.
