2002 Citroën Sbarro Picasso Cup

The 2002 Citroën Sbarro Picasso Cup, a unique creation by European design and styling specialists Sbarro, represents a distinctive interpretation of Citroën's popular people mover, the Xsara Picasso. This modified version of the Xsara Picasso is tailored to meet the "kit car" rallying regulations while retaining seating for five individuals, albeit in racing seats equipped with full racing seatbelts.

Underneath its eye-catching exterior, the Citroën Xsara Picasso Cup boasts a potent 175 kW 2.0-liter version of the 1.8-liter petrol engine typically found in the Citroën MPV. This powerful engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox to deliver exhilarating performance. The vehicle's sporty demeanor is further accentuated by massive 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/40 series tires, complemented by a lowered sports suspension system. Stopping power is provided by four sizable 370 mm disc brakes, ensuring confidence-inspiring braking performance.

However, what truly sets the Citroën Sbarro Picasso Cup apart are its striking design modifications. The vehicle features massively flared wheel arches and deep front and rear body extensions, enhancing its aggressive stance and aerodynamic profile. Perhaps the most extravagant alteration is the replacement of the standard four doors with two enormous gull-wing doors. Not only do these doors provide access to both the front and rear seats, but they also contribute to substantial strengthening of the body shell, allowing it to withstand the increased torsional stresses associated with racing and rallying activities.

A Citroën spokesperson highlighted the Xsara Picasso Cup's impressive pedigree, stating, "The Xsara Picasso Cup showcases the potential of the Xsara Picasso, particularly considering its shared DNA with the Xsara Coupe VTS and the world-conquering Xsara Coupe WRC rally car!" This statement underscores the vehicle's lineage and its capability to deliver exhilarating performance on both the road and the track, making it a unique and exciting proposition for enthusiasts and competitors alike.
