The 2024 Bertone Runabout is an exciting modern reinterpretation of the 1969 Bertone Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept, capturing its iconic wedge-shaped design with new technological updates. Announced on October 29—exactly 55 years after the original's Turin Motor Show debut—this new Runabout celebrates the spirit of the original, featuring design elements like a distinctive red stripe across its middle, wide fenders, and an angular safety arc. Its proportions honor the original, but with a contemporary twist: the headlights, once integrated into the body, now sit subtly concealed in the front.
Under the guidance of designer Andrea Mocellin—known for the Bertone GB110 supercar—this Runabout will launch with two configurations: a pure, open-air Barchetta with a small deflector, and a Targa with a removable roof panel and standard windshield. The updated model will be powered by a potent mid-mounted V6 engine producing 493 horsepower, providing a thrilling driving experience in line with its lightweight, agile frame. Production of this supercar is slated for mid-2026 in a limited edition, echoing Bertone's exclusive tradition.
The revival of the Bertone brand was made possible by Ideactive, under owners Mauro and Jean-Français Ricci, who relaunched the brand in 2022. Since then, Bertone has focused on blending classic design elements with modern performance, as seen in the GB110 and now the revived Runabout. The Runabout’s nod to the Fiat X1/9 and other Bertone projects signifies a bridge between historical innovation and futuristic design philosophy. This model underscores Bertone’s lasting influence in automotive design, now refreshed for the contemporary market.
