Kimera Automobili has unveiled the K39, a new racing version of their "hyper-restomod" Lancia. Following the K37 and K38, the K39 boasts a carbon-fiber monocoque and a completely redesigned body kit. Kimera plans to debut this car at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2025. While specific details about the powertrain have yet to be disclosed, the company is also developing a road-legal version of the K39.
The K39 continues Kimera Automobili's tribute to classic Italian motorsport icons. It draws inspiration from the Martini Racing team's legendary "Silhouette" cars, which dominated the World Sportscar Championship in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The car features a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and bodywork designed for optimal aerodynamic efficiency, refined through extensive virtual wind tunnel testing.
Kimera Automobili's journey began with Luca Betti, a motorsport enthusiast and former rally driver, who founded the company to revive the glory of Italian rally cars. The EVO37 project, launched in 2021, celebrated the Lancia 037, the last two-wheel-drive car to win the World Rally Championship in 1983. The EVO38, introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, further advanced this vision with four-wheel drive and updated aesthetics, representing an evolution of the legendary Italian racing cars from the 1970s to the early 1990s.
With the K39, Kimera Automobili returns to its motorsport roots, aiming to compete in the prestigious Pikes Peak Hill Climb. This race, known as the "Race to the Clouds," challenges competitors to ascend from 2800 meters to 4300 meters, pushing both machines and drivers to their limits. The K39's design not only pays homage to its historical predecessors but also meets the rigorous aerodynamic standards required for this high-altitude challenge.
Despite the technological disadvantages posed by high altitudes, where oxygen levels decrease, Kimera remains committed to an analogue, mechanical, and human approach to car design. This philosophy is reflected in the K39's development and the company's broader vision of sustainable technological progress.
For passionate collectors, Kimera Automobili is also producing a customer version of the K39. This limited-edition model promises unmatched style, performance, and driving pleasure, embodying the spirit of classic motorsport icons.
In 2025, the K39 will take on Pikes Peak, aiming to carve its name into the history of this legendary race. With its powerful engine and striking design, the K39 will once again demonstrate that Kimera Automobili is more than just a dream—it's a tribute to the enduring legacy of Italian motorsport.
