The 2004 Ford Mustang GTR 40th Anniversary Concept was a track-focused prototype that celebrated four decades of the legendary Mustang nameplate. Serving as a preview of the S197 fifth-generation Mustang, the GTR was powered by a 440hp 5.0L “Cammer” V8, a high-performance engine designed for competition use.
With its aggressive aerodynamics, widened stance, and race-ready modifications, the Mustang GTR embodied the raw power and heritage of Ford’s pony car legacy. It paid homage to the original 1964 Mustang, marking 40 years of evolution while hinting at the future direction of the model. Though it remained a concept, its influence could be seen in the high-performance Mustangs that followed.
